How to use Pro-Alert
Pro-Alert watches the cameras, doorbells, and other smart devices you add, and emails you if something goes offline. You add each device by its home-network address (IP). The live website cannot see your Wi-Fi by itself.
1. After you sign up
- You should get an email titled Confirm your Pro-Alert account.
- Check junk / spam if it is not in the inbox (Gmail often files it there the first time).
- Click Verify Email, then sign in.
- If nothing arrives, open the verify page and resend. If signup said the email could not be sent, no account was created — try again.
2. Find your router IP (Wi-Fi “gateway”)
This is your home hub’s address on the network. It usually looks like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. Save it in Settings and when you add a device.
Windows PC
- Press the Windows key, type cmd, open Command Prompt.
- Type
ipconfigand press Enter. - Find Default Gateway under your Wi-Fi adapter — that number is the router IP.
Mac
- Open System Settings → Wi-Fi → click Details next to your network.
- The Router address is the one you need.
iPhone
- Settings → Wi-Fi → tap the i next to your network.
- Look for Router.
Android
- Settings → Network & internet → Wi-Fi → tap your network (or the gear icon).
- Look for Gateway or Router.
3. Find each camera or doorbell’s IP
Each device has its own address, different from the router. Common ways:
- Router admin page: In a browser, go to the router IP (e.g.
http://192.168.1.1). Log in with the sticker on the router. Open the list of connected devices (often called Attached devices, DHCP clients, or Device list). Match names like “Ring”, “Cam”, or the brand. - The device’s own app: Many camera apps show “IP address” or “network info” in device settings.
- Write down that IP (e.g.
192.168.1.45) — you will type it into Pro-Alert.
4. Add devices on the dashboard
- Open Dashboard.
- Click Add Device.
- Enter a name you will recognise (e.g. “Front doorbell”).
- Choose the type (Camera, Doorbell, …).
- Enter the device IP from step 3 and your router IP from step 2.
- Save. Repeat for each device you care about.
After that, Pro-Alert can show them on the dashboard. Online/offline on the live website is most reliable if you also run the optional home helper (device agent) on a PC at home — ask support if you want that set up.
5. Why “Scan network” does not find devices
The website runs in the cloud, not inside your house. It cannot see phones, cameras, or printers on 192.168.x.x. Entering the router IP and clicking Scan on www.pro-alert.co.uk will not list home devices. That is expected.
Use Add Device with the IP from your router’s device list. Scan only works if you run Pro-Alert on a computer that is on the same Wi-Fi as those devices.
6. Alerts and extra security
- Email alerts: Settings → notification preferences. Confirm the address (and phone if you enable SMS).
- Stronger login: Settings → enable MFA after you can sign in.
- Family: Invite household members from the Family page so they see the same devices.
- Factory passwords: On each device card, mark whether you have changed the default login. We never ask for the device password itself.
